Boost Confidence With A Smile

Think about somebody now that you believe has 100% self confidence. This could be somebody that you know personally, or it could be somebody well-known, like a celebrity, a film star, whatever. Picture that person in your head now and then ask yourself this question: how often do I see them not smiling? How often do I see them looking down and unhappy? The answer in most cases is hardly ever.

You tend to find that people with high self-esteem are natural smilers. And because they’re going through life with a grin on their face, life tends to grin back. So even if you don’t feel very much like smiling, just try putting one on your face for the next 5 minutes and see how you feel after that.

Boost Confidence By Challenging Yourself

A lot of people who suffer with low self-esteem tend to avoid anything that may challenge them. The reasoning behind this, is that if they don’t do anything they may fail, then they won’t fail. This is of course not a great way to live your life.

Going back to that person who you believe has full self confidence in themselves; can you imagine them avoiding a challenge? Of course not, a person who believes in themselves will take on any challenge.

If you can relate to this and currently feel that you don’t want to take on any challenge that is presented to you, then you must get out of that mindset right now. And even if you take something on and you don’t succeed at it, you will still have learned something along the way. So you will have grown as a human being, gained valuable life experience and become a better person for it.

Boost Confidence Using Positive Expectations

This is a very simple one, the people with the highest self-confidence and self-esteem are the people who EXPECT good things to happen. And because they always expect good things, then good things usually come their way. That’s the amazing thing about this world, or the universe, whatever name you want to put on it. You get what you expect.

So if you have a tendency to go into the day dreading what may happen and picturing in your mind a whole bunch of scenarios that are negative, then try flipping those thoughts over to positive. Expect good things to happen throughout the day and you may be surprised at the results. Try it for the next 7 days and see if doing this makes any difference. I think we both know that it will.

How to get motivation…

…for what you know you need to do is a problem you, like many others may have.

Is there a project or a goal in your life that you are failing to achieve? What is the main reason for this? Is it a lack of motivation?

If so, then we are about to go over 3 ways that will first get you motivated, then keep you on track once you’ve started and finally we’ll enhance your motivation to make sure you succeed in the future.

Of course, the first thing we need to do is get started…

Getting Motivation

It’s nearly impossible to become motivated about anything unless you know WHY it is you’re doing what you’re doing. You would never get out of bed if you didn’t have a reason.

Think about it. If you cook breakfast in the morning, you know why you’re doing that. It might be because you’re hungry, or you want to fuel yourself for the day ahead, whatever it is. You know why you’re cooking breakfast. You have a reason. That is what gives you the motivation to make the breakfast. I know this seems like a simplistic metaphor, but it makes sense doesn’t it?

And if you want to get motivated to do absolutely anything, you must know why you are doing it.

If you need motivation to exercise, why are you exercising? Is it for health reasons? Is it to look good? The answer is of course always yours and yours alone, but you must know the answer. You must know your why. That is the first step to getting motivated. So once you’ve managed to get motivated, then what? Well you must tackle the age old problem of…

Staying Motivated

One of the biggest mistakes that people make once they’ve actually got something up and running is that they don’t take the time to recognize what they’ve already achieved.

You MUST take the time to celebrate your success.

If you don’t, then you’re unlikely to get the motivation to continue because your brain automatically wants you to take part in enjoyable activities. And if you don’t attach good feelings to what you’re doing, your brain will automatically try to get you to do something else.

However, I have good news. You can actually train your brain to help you to stay motivated. All you need to do is take the time to notice what you’ve already achieved, and feel good about it. Every day make sure you find at least one thing that you did the previous day that you can feel good about and celebrate.

Again, it sounds simplistic, but this is a really, really powerful technique.

So now we know how to get motivated, and we know the main technique for staying motivated, is there anything else we can do? I’m glad you asked. We can start to use some other…

Self Motivation Techniques

There are many, many self motivation techniques out there. And to be honest, it all depends on the person or individual as to how well they work. Just because one person says that doing this thing will work, doesn’t mean that it will work for you.

You need to understand what triggers your own motivation. What is it that makes you do what you do? I know it’s an old saying, but it’s a true one, when you’re born, you don’t come with a user’s manual. So it’s up to you to find out how you work.

Think about a time when you’ve been motivated in the past. What was it that got you motivated in the first place? What was it that kept you going when in other situations, you may have given up? Answering these questions will give you a better understanding of how you actually work. Not what other people say you should do. Only you know how it should be done.

If you’re the kind of person who is constantly bringing themselves down, both in the conversations in your head as well as with others, then once you’ve finished this post, you’re going to realize why it’s so important to take control of your words.

The Power Of Your Words

Words have a huge effect on our moods, and therefore our motivation. If you are beginning a task and you start with the words in your head saying…”there’s no way I can do this” or “who am I kidding? I’m not the kind of person who succeeds in this type of thing”, then of course you’re destined to fail before you even start.

You MUST take control of how you think. Switch those negative words in your head to positive words and you’re giving yourself the best possible chance at succeeding.

Be Careful What You Say…

It’s the same with the words you say out loud. How many times have you been talking to a friend or family member and not wanting to sound big headed or arrogant, you’ve talked down your achievements? It’s happened to nearly all of us. I know I’ve certainly been guilty of this in the past.

Here’s the thing…talking down your success is without doubt, the absolute worst thing you can do for your self esteem, your confidence and your motivation. Why on earth would your mind, who is controlling everything you do after all, why would it get all excited, pumped up and motivated to achieve your next goal, if it hears you talking to others in a negative way or bringing the achievement down.

Imagine what your mind would think‚Ķ”Oh well that’s great isn’t it. All that work on getting you motivated and making you follow through to reach your goals and this is how you react. Why should I bother?” And your mind has a point.

Summary

Remember, words have power. Make sure you think and talk with pride about your achievements. That obviously doesn’t mean you should turn into an arrogant boaster, of course not. But if you can talk about what you’ve achieved to others with pride and satisfaction, using strong, powerful words then you’ll be keeping both you and your mind happy, which then of course means more motivation and success for you in the future.

Staying Motivated Through Systems

Setting up systems is one of the best ways to stay motivated.

Okay, I know that it doesn’t sound very glamorous, but if you study the people who are REALLY successful, you’ll notice that they ALL have some sort of success system in place. It’s an absolutely essential part of creating the life you desire.

One big thing you can do is to plan your day the night before.

This is such a powerful technique that is all too often overlooked as being too simple. Don’t fall into this trap.

Plan your day in advance and you won’t have to spend the first part of it figuring out what to do next. In other words…you’ll be hitting the ground running.

Okay, now you’re organized and ready to take on the day.

The next thing you need is to…

Be Passionate

One of the best tips to stay motivated I can give you is to be passionate.

It goes without saying that if you’re passionate about something, you’re going to find it much easier to get yourself motivated to get up and do it.

But what if the task in front of you is something you just can’t stand?

You’d do absolutely anything to put off or avoid doing it.

Well, here’s a distinction to remember…losers focus on pleasurable activities…while winners focus on pleasurable results.

In other words, there’s always going to be a time when in the pursuit of your goal, you’re going to arrive at something you’d rather avoid.

It’s ESSENTIAL at this time that you concentrate on the long term desired result rather than the short term task in front of you.

This sounds both obvious and simple, but ask yourself honestly, when this happens to you, do you focus on the result?…or the task?

But what about when things are not only not fun, but not successful too?

Well, you need to remember that you must…

Always Bounce Back And Stay On Track

If you read about anybody in history who has discovered how to stay motivated and achieved great success, you’ll find that they didn’t get it their own way.

In fact, one of the things they always say they’re most proud of is the fact that no matter how tough things became, they never gave up.

Check on anybody you admire and you’ll find the same thing.

Success is never served to you on a plate, you have to go out and claim it.

That’s why you must always bounce back. If you fall at the first hurdle…or the second…or the third, you’re never going to get to the finish line never mind win.

As long as you stay on course, then you’re doing fine.

If hurdles come your way, jump over them, walk round them, whatever.

Just make sure you always bounce back and stay on track.

Here’s how to get the most from the¬†Prepare for Success¬†video.

1 – 90% Of All Visits To A Doctor Are Related To Stress: Plan in advance to avoid getting stressed out if the unexpected happens.

2 – To Not Be Prepared Is To Be Arrogant: Never take things for granted. Make sure you’re ready to face any challenge that life presents to you.

3 – Respond…Don’t React: Go with the flow and keep moving forward. Roadblocks will always turn up. If you prepared in advance, you’d know where they were and just take another route and keep going.

Action Exercise:

Step 1:¬†Select something you’re doing in the next day or so, no more than a week away, and plan it out. Make sure you’ve covered any eventuality in case something unexpected happens. If it does…you’ll be ready for it.

The 50/50 System

When you’re learning something completely new, try dividing your time 50/50.

What do I mean by that?

I would learn, that is reading, listening or whatever, for 50% of the time and then I would take the other 50% of the time taking action on what I had learned.

That is the 50-50 system.

It seems simple enough doesn’t it?

All you will need is a timer, whether that is a physical one like an egg timer, or one on your phone perhaps, or even one of the many timers that are available online.

Try this 3 step method for starters…

 

Step 1: Read, listen or watch the content you’re learning from and set yourself 25 minutes to do so.

Step 2: Once the 25 minutes is over, give yourself 5 minute break.

Step 3: Then once you’ve gotten up and walked around a bit, take a drink of water whenever, you sit back down for another 25 minutes and you take action on what you’ve learned.

Now when I say take action…

I mean you write down and make some kind of plan on what you’re going to do and then do it.

For example, if one of the instructions in the book is to call somebody, then quite simply make that call in the second 25 minute section.

This way, you make actual progress as you’re learning.

Or…if a suggestion is to plan something fun for the weekend, then take that 25 minute section to do it.

Make calls and get in touch with people, figure out what you want to do and doing it this way means you are progressing as you are learning.

You’re doing both at the same time and you are in a kind of balance.

In other words…

Learning isn’t 90% of what you’re doing and action is only 10%.

You have to balance the books so to speak.

So that is the 50/50 system for getting the most out of any self-development material that you are studying.

In summary…

Make sure that you are progressing as well as learning.

Keep these two in the 50% range and with just a little bit of extra planning and effort, you will notice improved results from your self-development efforts.

Can you believe there’s a music video on Scott-Chambers.com?

Who would ever have thought something like this would happen?

Now, don’t worry, I’ve not gone down the Simon Cowell route.

I am merely using this video as a metaphor for the old adage of taking action.

Let Me Tell You A Story…

When I first decided that I wanted to do something about my life, in other words I wanted to make it better, I started to do some research.

Now keep in mind that this is going back a few years now…so when I say I did some research, I had to physically go down to the local bookstore and look¬†through the self-improvement section.

I then had to check the local newsagent, and browse through the magazines on how to make your life better.

There was none of this internet stuff at that time.

Honestly, you kids do not know how easy you have it these days. ūüôā

But to be honest, the problems you get from conducting this kind of research are no different now than they were then.

Yes of course, you do have the added benefit that you can now just pick up your phone, your lap top, or go onto your computer, type in a few words and you have access to all the knowledge you will ever need.

That part is of course is different.

But the point I am making is that even back then, I was bombarded with information.

I didn’t need the internet to feel information overload.

One book was saying I should do one thing, another book was saying no don’t do that do this instead, then another¬†was seeing no don’t either of those, what you really need to do is this…and so on.

I Had Absolutely No Idea Which Way To Turn.

So I have to admit that for a long time at the beginning of my journey, I was too busy trying to find out what the proper system was that would improve my life, rather than what I should have been doing, which was taking action by jumping in and getting my feet wet.

And that’s the way of this industry…this community if you like.

There are so many different people saying so many different things, that anybody
just starting out will have absolutely no idea which way to turn.

Here’s the thing, I have found that over the years, when you try to improve yourself, whether you call it self-help…personal development…whatever tag you want
to put on it, it all comes down to this.

All these different books and all these different courses are all telling you the same thing…just in a different way.

Now that’s not wrong.

In fact, it’s absolutely right that they should repackage the same information…

Because The Most Important Thing Is That You Find Success.

If one person tells you to do A+ B to get C and you don’t understand the way that they explain it to you…then there is nothing wrong with¬†someone else coming along and saying A+ B =C…but in a different way.

The only difference being, that this time, you completely understand the process and you maybe even connect to that person more than you did the first one.

As Long As You Get The Message And Understand It…That Is All That Matters.

Do you see what I’m getting at here?

A lot of people are very critical that a whole industry has grown up around the self-development movement.

But the point is, there needs to be this many people who are sharing their knowledge.

Because as human beings we are not one size fits all. We have different tastes, different likes, and different ways we absorb information.

Some people may listen to somebody like Tony Robbins and get what he says immediately. That’s great, job done.

Then somebody else may listen to Tony Robbins and think, I have no idea what is going on here. He is talking to fast, this is far too energetic for me, I am just going to turn this off.

Now what about this person? They need to learn about self-improvement just as much as
the person previously who understood Tony Robbins immediately.

So What Is To Be Done With Them?

Well in this case, they could of course search for other people online that may be more attractive to them.

Perhaps they would prefer¬†somebody like Brian Tracy for example, or Wayne Dyer, or even dare I say it…Scott Chambers. ūüôā

I’m being serious here, the industry is huge and there is a reason for that.

There will always be people who need help.

And You Should Always Seek Out Somebody You Connect With.

Just because a whole bunch of people have gotten something from one particular person, it doesn’t¬†mean that the same will happen for you.

To avoid all the wasted time that I, and many other people have gone through at the start of our journeys, all you need to do is a quick bit of research.

And as I have mentioned previously, with the Internet, this is so much easier than it was¬†way back in my day, when we all roamed with the dinosaurs. ūüôā

Check out some videos on YouTube, do some Google searches, look at some forums, do anything at all so that you can find somebody that resonates with you.

Find somebody that writes in a way that you like to read, somebody that talks in a way you like to listen to, someone you connect with.

Then concentrate on what they tell you.

Don’t jump from one person to another as you try to find the magic ingredient.

Find a person, understand what they are saying and then most importantly, do something about it.

Or in other words, and here are those magic two words once again, take action!

Do not slow down yourself and your success with trying to way too much before you actually do something.

The Best Way To Get On With Anything Is To Jump In And Do It.

You will learn as you go on.

I cannot emphasise the importance of this enough.

A lot of people change the old saying from ready…aim…fire to ready…fire…aim, and I could not
agree more.

Learn What You Need To Do And Take Some Action.

Learn and do are those other three magic words. Learn and do.

Think about it, you can sit and read every book, listen to every audio course, and watch every video and you will still be no further forward than you were when you started.

It’s only when you actually take some kind of action on what you have learnt that you start making progress and succeed.

Now as I am sure you know, I’m a systems man.

So How Do We Incorporate Systems Into What I’m Talking About Here?

It’s very simple…

Now you¬†realize¬†that the key to success is to actually just jump in and get on with it. What you’ll find is that as you go along, you’ll start to understand not only better, but you will understand more.

And you’ll come up with your own techniques, your own ideas and your¬†own way of doing things.

You’ll discover that all these books, the audio courses and videos, are all there to get you to do one thing, to get you to find your own path.

You take the 80% that works for you from these books, and you add the 20% as you go along.

And you’ll discover that the 20% is what makes it¬†yours, that’s what makes a personal to you, and that is what makes your life a success.

So Less Learning And More Doing.
